The Tower of Babel (NIV)
1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone and bitumen for mortar. 4Then they said, “Come, let us build a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth. 5But the LORD cam edown to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.” 7Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9This is why it was called Babel – because the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

The tower of Babel
Then, a common language had all the world and they all used the same words.
While eastwards moved the humans, a plain they found in the country of Shinar and they built a settlement there.
And they told each other, “Oh, let us make bricks and let us bake them well.”
Bricks they used instead of stones, and asphalt they used as mortar also.
Then they said, “Oh, let us build a city that has a tower which touches the sky/heaven.
So we will become famous and we will not be scattered over the surface of the whole world.”
But the LORD decended to see the city and the tower they were building.
The LORD said, “If they are one people and a common language they speak, and they are doing such things — then nothing they endeavour is impossible anymore.
Oh, let us descend and let us confuse their language so that each other they will not understand anymore.”
Thus the LORD scattered the humans over the surface of the whole world and they stopped to build the city.
For that resaon this city is called Babel: Because of all the world the LORD confused the language.
The LORD scattered them over the surface of the whole world from there.
